DescriptionThis lightweight red silk scarf would have featured as a decorative accessory to an Edwardian women’s outfit in the early 1900s. The length of material has loose fringing at either end.HistoryComing into everyday fashion during the nineteenth century, shawls and scarves were worn in open carriages, while walking outside or during a seaside promenade. They were used by Victorian and Edwardian women as protection from the elements, though lighter weight examples were also used as a decorative part of an evening ensemble. SignificanceThis scarf is representative of popular women's fashions in the early twentieth century.
