DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [255] consists of black and white photographic negatives taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat racing and trials. The images depict various events including the 1973/74 Sydney-Newcastle BP Ocean Classic; boats TEXACO BRITANNIA, MISS MICHELLE, and LADY WAKEHURST; and events at Singapore Harbour in 1974, and Camp Cove, Sydney in 1973.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
