DescriptionThese grey and blue nylon boardshorts were made in China by Quiksilver in the 1990s. They have a velcro zip and a yellow cord tie at the waist and several mesh pockets, one with a black cord key rope with a white serrated plastic wax comb attached. Another pocket contains a clear plastic water bag and a black bum bag with yellow mesh detailing is attached to the waist at back of the shorts. The Quiksilver label and logo are attached to the two front pockets. HistoryDuring the 1960s boardshorts, made from polyester or nylon, were generally associated with beach sports, like surfing and wakeboarding. Designed to be durable and quick drying they have since grown in popularity as casual everyday wear in Australia and North America. Wax combs are used on surfboards for scraping off old or excess wax and distributing it over the board. The wax is needed on surfboards so the rider's feet have some traction on the board surface.SignificanceThese boardshorts are representative of popular surf wear fashions worn in Australia in the 1990s.
