DescriptionThis pair of pink boardshorts, bearing the initials 'Q. B. C.' was one of 80 produced for the Queenscliff Boardriders Club when the team won the inaugural Surf League National Team Titles in 1984. The design incorporates a velcro fly that fastens at the waist with metal press studs.
HistoryThe Queenscliff Boardriders Club (QBC) was established in 1978, with the aim of providing a competitive environment for young and mature surfers, while still creating a fun and social atmosphere for all members.
The club has been the training ground of world-class surfers such as Rob Bain, Merrick Davis, Ryan Alagich and Kingsley Looker, and current Pro Junior surfers Sam Page and Nick Riley. By 2008 QBC was the only club in Australia to have won The Quicksilver Surfleague National Series, Jim Beam National Surftag Series, Milo Gromtag Series and Globe Pro Junior Teams Challenge.
SignificanceThe boardshorts are an important record of the club's success in 1984, and are representative of men's beachwear trends during the 1980s.
