DescriptionThis engraving featured in the 7th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica published between 1830 and 1842. It depicts an elevated view of a 110 horsepower steam engine, showing gearing and mounting. The detailed view shows two engines with large piston cylinders driving a wheel shaft above, and a large coal fired boiler at the rear with single chimney rising through funnel at top. This engraving probably featured in the 7th edition ‘Encyclopaedia Britannica: A Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and General Literature’ published in 1842.
