DescriptionThis engraving featured in the 7th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica published between 1830 and 1842. It shows an end and a side elevation plan of the steam engine of HM Mail Packet URGENT. The views show the engine's large steam boiler at the base operating a large piston, geared through a rocker arm to an overhead drive shaft connecting to a paddle wheel. This engraving probably featured in the 7th edition ‘Encyclopaedia Britannica: A Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and General Literature’ published in 1842.
