DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [999] consists of black-and-white negatives taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to speedboats, racing, tests, trials and other events. They depict various speedboats by companies such as Stacer, Trimcraft, Sea Trex, Pride Premier, Swiftcraft, Trailcraft, Markham, Seafarer, Vickers, Quintrex and Savage, equipped with motors by Mariner, Evinrude, Johnson, Mercury, Yamaha, and Volvo. The photographs depict the Parramatta River, Berowra Waters and Cammeray, New South Wales, workshops and sheds, damaged boats, a slipway, ferries, dinghies and ski boats.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
