DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [990] consists of black-and-white negatives taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat and hydroplane racing, tests, trials, waterskiing and other events. Some of the events photographed are the B P 100, Offshore 80, Cabarita Hydro Offshore, St George Motor Boat Club, Silverwater State Boat Championships, Deepwater Handicap racing, E R NUNN Trophy Cabarita, as well as Cabarita kite flying, and tests of SAVAGE, CRIS CRAFT and COMMANDER.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
