DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [988] consists of transparencies taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat racing in and around the eastern states of Australia. It includes 988 black and white negative strips, depicting various power boats at speed, hydroplanes, outboard and inboard V8 petrol engines, stern drive assembly, drivers and spectators, river views, sailing craft, modified cars, water skiers, interior cabins, sinking boats and a motor launch.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
