DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [979] consists of transparencies taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat racing in and around Australia. It includes 979 black-and-white transparencies depicting various speed boats and hydroplanes, races, titles, tests and other events at Cabarita, Silverwater and the Cooks River, New South Wales, and at Goolwa, South Australia.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
