DescriptionThis engraving featured in the 7th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica published between 1830 and 1842. The plate features 16 images relating to gunnery and artillery, such as the construction of brass guns; carronades; brass and iron howitzers; travelling field guns; a land service mortar; a 24-inch mortar; a garrison gun on a traversing platform; and directional equipment. This engraving probably featured in the 7th edition ‘Encyclopaedia Britannica: A Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and General Literature’ published in 1842.
