DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [977] consists of black-and-white negatives taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat and hydroplane racing, tests, trials, waterskiing and other events. Some of the events photographed include the St George Hydroplane Trials, Silverwater Lions Day, Whiskey Cup, B.P. Sydney to Newcastle Race, Miss World competition, flying boat surf boat race, State Outboard Champion Titles, Cabarita Ski Day, trials of LEWITZ and WASP TWO, and views of Silverwater.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
