DescriptionThis engraving featured in the 7th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica published between 1830 and 1842. It illustrates a 65 horsepower single marine engine, showing the cylinder end, crank end, a side view and overhead view. The engine is comprised of a single steam driven cylinder, a driving cradle, an elliptical rocker which drives the crankshaft to run the wheel drive shaft. This engraving probably featured in the 7th edition ‘Encyclopaedia Britannica: A Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and General Literature’ published in 1842.
