DescriptionThis engraving featured in the 7th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica published between 1830 and 1842. The plate features eight illustrations relating to the use of bridges for inland navigation, including an overhead plan of a swing bridge; a side view plan of a draw bridge; a view of a raised draw bridge; and various bridge mechanisms. This engraving probably featured in the 7th edition ‘Encyclopaedia Britannica: A Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and General Literature’ published in 1842.
