DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [970] consists of black and white photographic negatives taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat racing and trials. The images depict various events including the 1968 Stuart Doyle Cup; the 1968 national speedboat titles at Burrendong Dam, Wellington; the St George Motor Boat Club, Sans Souci; and the Cabarita Cup Race, Sydney.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
