DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [989] consists of photographs taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat racing. It includes 989 35mm negatives which depict various events including the 1973 Adelaide Boat Show, 1974 and 1976 Melbourne Boat Show, 1977 Sydney Boat Show, and Schweppes Open Race.
A range of vessels are represented including STEJCRAFT 18, STEBER, Halvorsen Cabin cruiser GRANDBANKS, CLIPPER TAIWAN yacht, SAVAGE CHALLENGER, SAVAGE DOLPHIN sail vessel, SEA NYMPH / LINROSE, and MONARK.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
